Half Moon Bay Marina is of pontoon style construction with Comsen units supplying both power and water to 200 berths from 10m to 30m.

Constructed in 1994 at a development cost of 12 million dollars, the marina is protected from the prevailing south-east trade winds by Yorkey's Knob, a natural headland rising some 100 metres above sea level.

Two breakwaters protect the north and north-west sectors of the Marina and are designed to cyclonic standards.

In March 1997 and February 1999 the level of protection offered by the Marina was shown during Cyclone Justin and Rhona, with no damage sustained to moored craft.

The marina incorporates a large, well appointed club house, and site features including full refueling and provisioning facilities. Experienced electrics, electronics, mechanical tradesman and shipwrights are readily available and work regularly within the marina. The NQEA Ship Yard in Cairns has the capability of pulling out even the largest of vessels and is experienced in the maintenance and repair of steel GRP and timber vessels.

Other facilties and features include:

  • Marina Office: Open 8am to 5pm and monitoring VHF channel 16
  • Operating Hours: The Marina is open 24 hours
  • Shore Power: 240v and 3 phase
  • Water: Clean drinking water at all berths
  • Fuel: On-site tank capacity is 50,000 litres of diesel and 20,000 litres of unleaded
  • Security: Gatehouse and mobile security patrols
  • Dining: The multi-million dollar club house has an excellent restaurant
  • Ice and Gas: Available on-site
  • Toilets, Showers and Laundry Facilities: All modern amenities within the Marina
  • Local Transport: A courtesy coach offers a scheduled service
  • Dry Storage: Hard stand area adjacent to berths
  • Marine Brokerage: Sonar Marine Services Cairns

Like so many marinas, there is the ongoing problem of siltation and provision of a clear access for vessels of all drafts, and the access channels are dredged on a regular basis to provide a trouble free passage in and out of the Marina.

In addition to weekly, monthly and annual berth rental, casual berthing is also available, and travellers are most welcome. Berths can also be purchased for own use, or used as an investment.

Along with being only 15 minutes from the Cairns International Airport, Half Moon Bay Marina is centrally located and can be used as a base for exploring the wonders of tropical North Queensland.

If you require accommodation in the local area many beachfront apartments and resorts are available very close to the marina. Click here for more information.
